Cushendale: Made slower, made to last a lifetime. This brand aligns 100% with W&C’s mission of promoting sustainable practices in clothing, along with joy for those who create. Take one look at Cushendale’s website, and fall in love with their color schemes, products, and sustainable practices.
My mom recently came back from a trip to Ireland with the prettiest Mohair yarn from this shop. Primarly known for selling gift-type items like throws, blankets, and scarves - Cushendale also sells luxury yarns and knitting kits. She gifted me the Mohair Comfy Scarf Knitting Kit in Foxglove. I quickly knitted this up in the car while we traveled on our final summer roadtrip to North Carolina.
Using only one skein and large 15mm chunky needles, the comfy scarf ended up with a soft and airy lace effect. This would be a great project for beginner knitters, as well as a fun gift idea for the upcoming holiday season. I can’t wait to wear this scarf this Fall!

Introducing “Herd’s The Word” Cowl by Laura Dobratz - September’s KAL at Wool & Cottage!
This pattern was originally written for the Fuzzy Goat Yarn Shop, and their promotion of 2023 “Box of Goats” - a holiday themed yarn subscription. This knit is fully textured, knit flat and seamed asymmetrically. I love the variety of options this design has, including solid or gradient color schemes, and the option to use mini or full skeins of fingering weight yarn. It’s also a great stash busting pattern!
The pattern is 40% off through August 30th. (No code needed, applied at checkout. You can click the link above to purchase it on Ravelry).
As far as yarn options, this pattern recommends using Emma’s Yarn with different three options:
Emma's Yarn Practically Perfect Smalls
Emma's Yarn Super Silky Smalls / Theme Packs
If your LYS (Local Yarn Shop) doesn’t sell Emma’s Yarn, here is a recommendation to purchase: Simply Socks Yarn Company. (This is my LYS, and they do a fantastic job!).
Emma’s Yarn uses a nice blend of Merino Wool + Nylon. You’ll need right around 560-600 yds of yarn for this project. This is a relatively easy yarn to swap as well, please reach out if you need help with choosing yarn molly@woolandcottage.com.
I’m excited to cast on this project with you starting September 1st, 2024. We will take the entire month of September to stitch up the cowl. We will share our progress and any knitting support on our Facebook Group.
If you don’t have Facebook, but would like to join our KAL you can find us on Instagram @woolandcottage. Use the hashtag #woolandcottagekal to share your progress!
Happy Knitting!

If you’re completely new to knitting, or even if you have been stitching up garments for awhile - knitting kits are a fun way for all knitters to try out new patterns and yarn!
Many larger yarn companies offer great knitting kit options, with new additions added to the line up each season. There is also a growing smaller market of independent knitters & yarn-makers that have started offering knitting kits as well.
There’s so many options and beautiful garments to make using a knitting kit. While we love the flexibility of choosing our own patterns and yarn, the ease of having the materials together is a nice feature. Sometimes kits will offer small bonuses like garment labels, video tutorials, needles, and other accessories, too.
We curated a list of resources below for you if you’re interested in trying out a knitting kit. They’re all great - there’s no particular order here!
Also, be sure to check with your LYS (Local Yarn Shop!) of any special kits or collections they might have put together. Sometimes they will offer a special discount or promotion on curated kits using the shop yarn! If you don’t have an LYS - here are two of my local shops from Indiana (they both offer shipping!): Simply Socks Yarn Company & Knitting Off Broadway

When you shop needles at JBW, you’re guaranteed protection if your knitting needle(s) breaks. Just send in the broken parts and get a new needle(s) for FREE. They even pay the shipping costs!
This is a game changer even if you didn’t purchase your knitting needles from JBW - you can still return your needles if they break, but you’ll just have to pay a $1 shipping fee. (We think that’s a pretty sweet deal!)
Simply send the broken needle(s) back to us at:
ATTN: Broken Needle Exchange
891 Trademark Drive
Reno, NV 89521
Please be sure to include your full name, order number, shipping address, phone number, and e-mail address. We know that this might seem like a lot of information to ask for but we've found that if there is a problem (your needles are out of stock, etc.), its easier to contact you if there are a few choices!
Depending on what type of needle was damaged, you may only have to send back part or all of the item:
Circulars: We need the entire needle.
Straights, Double Points and Interchangeable tips: We need just the broken needle and not the entire set.
Interchangeable Cords or Needle Set Accessories: We just need the broken part/s
Have a broken needle that you didn't order from us? Not a problem! We'll still take back damaged needles, even if you didn't purchase them from us (of course, as long as we carry needles from that company). We do ask for $1 in shipping charges, in order to send you a new pair.
If you have any questions pertaining to our broken needle exchange program, please feel free to call us at 877-JBW-KNIT (529-5648)!
